1. Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the land of the Gerasenes. 2 And as soon as Yehoshu had gone out of the boat, there came to him from the tombs a man of unclean spirit, 3 who had his abode in the tombs; and not even with chains could anyone arrest him; 4 For when he had been bound with fetters and chains, the chains were cut in pieces, and the fetters were crumbs, and no one could tame him. 5 And always day and night he walked in the tombs and in the mountains, shouting and bruising himself with stones. 6 And when he saw Yehoshu afar off, he ran and worshiped him; 7 And he cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Yehoshu the Son of the Most High God? I charge you with God that you do not torment me. 8 Yehoshua said to him, “Come out of this man, you unclean spirit. 9 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Legion is my name, for we are many. 10 And he begged him not to send him out of the country. 11 Now there was a great herd of swine grazing on the mountain. 12 And the devils begged him, saying, Send us up those pigs, that we may enter into them. 13 And he allowed it. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered the swine; and the herd, which was about two thousand, rushed down the cliff into the sea, where they were all drowned. 14 In this they fled those who fed them, and preached it in the city and in the fields; and many went to see what had happened. 15 And it came to Yehoshu ‘; he had seen the devil, who had had the legion, seated, clothed, and in perfect judgment; and feared. 16 And those who had seen it told them how it had happened to the demoniac and about the swine. 17 And they began to entreat him to depart from his borders. 18 And when he was come into the boat, he begged him that was possessed with him that he might let him be with him. 19 Yehoshu, but he did not allow it, but said to them, Go to your house to your house and tell them how much the LORD has done to you and how he has shown mercy to you. 20 So he went away and began to publish in Decapolis all that Yehoshu had done to them. and all were astonished. 21 Yehoshu having passed on the boat again to the other side; a great multitude was gathered unto him; and he was by the sea. 22 Then one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Yarius, came and, as soon as he saw Yehoshu ‘, he fell at his feet, 23 and beseeched him, saying, My little daughter is at last; I beg you to come and lay your hands on him, that he may heal and live. 24 Yehoshu ‘went with him, and followed a great multitude, and pressed him. 25 Now a certain woman, who had had a bleeding for twelve years, 26 who had suffered enough at the hands of many physicians, and spent all that she had, but did not profit at all, but went to the worse, 27 having heard of Yehoshua ” , came from behind the crowd, and touched his robe; 28 For he said, If I should touch his garment alone, I will be healed.
Contrary to the teachings of Moshe, the Torah, and the prophets, many Israelis worked with pigs.
On one occasion, in his teachings to the congregation, Yehoshu ‘said that when the unclean spirit departs from a person, he wanders through arid places, seeking where to dwell; in the text, we see that the demons found a place in the Gadarene boy.
In rebuke to the yehudim, also by the rearing of pigs, Yehoshu ‘commanded the demons to enter the swine; and destroyed them.
